Requesting Approval of Alternate Examiners

May 31, 2006

Recently, I have received copies of L-10 forms requesting approval of new alternate examiners. The following documents must be submitted to request approval of an alternate examiner:

* L-10 form (Test Center Staff Appointment): This form must be completed for all requested items. It is important to list the correct 10 digit center ID number for the correct center to which the alternate examiner will be assigned. Do not use the main center ID number unless the alternate examiner will be assigned to that center. If the new alternate examiner is replacing a current alternate examiner, that information must be included on the form.

* Test Security Memorandum: A copy of a signed an initialed Test Security Memorandum by the new alternate examiner must accompany the L-10 form.

* Resume: A resume depicting the alternate examiners qualifications must be submitted: (Refer to Sections 2.4-1 and 2.4-2 located in the 2005 GED Examiner's Manual for examiner requirements).

The documentation must be sent to the Iowa GED State Administrator for review and processing. The Iowa GED State Administrator will approve or disapprove the request. If the request is approved, the documentation will be sent to GEDTS for final action. Once GEDTS has approved the appointment, the alternate examiner may begin to conduct GED testing sessions. It is important to note that an alternate examiner may not conduct GED testing sessions until final approval is granted by GEDTS.

This policy guideline will be posted in the GED policy folder located at www.readiowa.org. Please forward this memorandum to all "need to know" personnel. If there are questions, please contact me.

Sincerely,

John Hartwig
Iowa GED State Administrator
