CAUSE AND EFFECT WRITING
I will utilize cause and effect techniques when teaching writing. Incorporating
the theme of the book, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, and utilizing
the “POWER” techniques of writing, the student will be able
to write a paper showing problems and possible outcomes.
| PLAN |
I have the student list actions and their consequences.
Here are some examples:
If you _______, then _______ (will happen).
action consequence
|
| ORGANIZE |
The student will organize the above items by deciding the order
they want to place
them in the paper.
1. ________________
2. ________________
3. ________________
4. (more if necessary) |
| WRITE |
The student will then write using specific detail about each action
and consequence. I encourage the student to cite as much important
information as possible to add richness and detail. (Do Not Worry
About punctuation, capitalization and other mechanical items at this
time). |
| EDIT |
The student will go over the paper and do the following:
1. Check the spelling.
2. Check capitalization.
3. Check punctuation.
4. Check to see that all sentences are complete (and no run ons) and
make sense. |
| REWRITE |
The student rewrites the paper puffing in all needed corrections.
