TOPSpro Field 20 Instructions

Field 20 dialog box

Boxes A through F refer to Field 20 on the Entry Record Form. In the box labeled A, code the type of class in which the learner is enrolled. This will enter the data for the student for Field 20 without bubbling. Note that you will only use the "A" box for entering data. The other boxes will remain blank.

The following coding is shown on page 1-11 of the Iowa Data Dictionary:
Type of ClassCode
Adult Basic Education (ABE)0
English Literacy (ESL)1
Adult Secondary Education (ASE/GED)2
EL/Civics3
Combination of ABE, ASE/GED4
Adult High School Diploma5

Keep in mind that this coding refers to the TYPE OF CLASS as defined by the local ABE program, not by the educational functioning level of the individual student or the marketing of the class as listed in the college tabloid. For example, if you offer a GED class, but routinely serve students that are functioning at the ABE level who probably won't be able to complete their GED as a short term goal, then that class would be classified as a combination ABE, ASE/GED.
